Today at Brannan Island

Spent the morning scouting locations to paint at Brannan Island… Windy and clear, beautiful vistas from all directions. The color of the expansive skies, clear and blue, is reflected in the sloughs surrounding the campground. We could frame views with Mt. Diablo in the distance, horizontal rows of light and color in the middle ground, and rich dark and light of the river and banks.
We had just viewed the Gregory Kondos show at the Crocker Museum in Sacramento, and we decided to experience the landscape through his eyes. bands of clear light blues, separated by dark horizontal masses of greens and golds. Intimate studies of trees, twisted snags and a single magnificent heron were possible during our reconnaissance.
Next week, we will paint there!
