Secrets of Color
Tuesday 1 – 4 pm
1/9 – 3/13   (10 Classes)
Does Color Theory make you cross-eyed? Learn the secrets of color in this exciting 5 session summer workshop. Color mixing becomes a breeze once you understand the simple rules. Each week we will discover different aspects to using color, while you assemble a color ‘bible’ to keep as your personal guide. Lecture and demo, with lots of practical painting exercises.

Painting Still Life Like the Old Masters
Thursday         9 AM – 12 PM
1/11 – 3/15   (10 Classes)
Learn the techniques of Titian and other old masters. Using oils (preferred) or acrylics we will work through the processes of underpainting, grisaille, layering and glazing to achieve a beautiful and timeless three-dimensionality. Previous experience drawing recommended. Previous experience with paint is helpful but not necessary.

Chalk Pastel for Still Life and More!
Tuesday  6:30 – 9:30 PM
1/9- 3/13  (10 Classes)
Learn how to paint with beautiful chalk pastel.  We begin with still life, working on the basics of drawing and color; topics include materials, drawing and painting techniques, composition, use of color; demonstrations and individual advice each week. Later in the quarter we will work from student/supplied photo reference to create colorful landscapes. Abstracting shapes and other topics of interest may be included. Returning students are very welcome and can work on more advanced and individual projects. Supply fee due at first class.

Figure Drawing
Friday    9 AM – 12 PM
1/12 – 3/16     (10 Classes)
Quick gesture sketches and longer poses train your eye to observe and render the human form. Learn to use blocking, foreshortening, value shapes and other techniques to enhance your drawing skills.

Open Studio Figure Drawing & Painting
Studio available for working from the figure, short and long poses, supervised use; no instructor. Participants provide their own supplies. Different model each week). Enrollment limited. Note: Oils and acrylics ok in Monday class. No solvents in Friday class.Age: 14 and up

Portrait and Figure Drawing and Painting
1/6/2017 – 3/17/2017   (9 Classes)
Ages 18+ (16-17 with parent permission)
This continuing portrait and figure class is for both drawing and painting students. One, two, or three session poses with nude and clothed models each quarter. New students are welcome and strongly encouraged to work in charcoal and pencil to build up drawing skills. Continuing students may progress to oil, acrylic, water media or chalk pastel. Drawing and painting topics demonstrated and individually addressed, including basic block-in, composition, measuring, proportion, foreshortening, anatomy, value, color, layering and brushwork.
