Painting the Still Life with Color and Light
Afternoon painting class emphasizing the use of color and light in painting the still life in oil, chalk pastel or acrylic. Both alla prima (all at once) and indirect layering methods will be explored. Weekly in-depth demonstrations are integral to the class and will focus on topics such as composition, lighting, color palette, layering; technique will be addressed, as well as use of materials. $10 supply fee due at first class.- Tuesdays Jun-20-2017 – Aug-15-2017 no class July 4 1:00 – 4:00PM
Figure Painting Like the Old Masters
Learn the techniques of the old masters. Using oils or acrylics, work through the processes of underpainting, grisaille, layering and glazing to achieve a beautiful and timeless three-dimensionality. Previous experience drawing the figure recommended. Come to first class with materials from list, ready to work.

The Still Life in Chalk Pastel
Using the still life as our subject, learn how to paint with beautiful chalk pastel. We will begin with a limited palette, and then introduce full color on succeeding projects. Pastel painting topics include materials, techniques, composition, use of color; demonstrations and individual advice each week. Expand your creativity and art education while having fun. Learn to create strong compositions and attain accurate color, values, and representation through demonstrations and individual instruction. Acquire a greater visual awareness and skill to interpret and execute a portrait, working from photographs. Develop your painting abilities to work in a representational manner. Studio available for working from the figure, short and long poses, supervised use; no instructor. Participants provide their own supplies. Different model each week). Enrollment limited. Note: Oils and acrylics ok in Monday class. No solvents in Friday class.Age: 14 and up

Portrait and Figure Drawing and Painting
This continuing portrait and figure class is for both drawing and painting students. One, two, or three session poses with nude and clothed models each quarter. New students are welcome and strongly encouraged to work in charcoal and pencil to build up drawing skills. Continuing students may progress to oil, acrylic, water media or chalk pastel. Drawing and painting topics demonstrated and individually addressed, including basic block-in, composition, measuring, proportion, foreshortening, anatomy, value, color, layering and brushwork.
