Further Adventures in Color and Light
You’ve had basic color theory, now to put it into practice! Gain a deeper understanding of the effect of light on color with projects designed to increase observational and practical skills. Each week we paint a single object under different light and color conditions. Oil paint and a palette knife preferred, acrylic and palette knife OK. Previous enrollment in Secrets of Color or Painting the Still Life with Color and Light recommended. Materials list online at http://www.communityarts.org. Bring your color ‘bible’ from Secrets of Color to use as a reference. $10 supply fee due at first class.

Figure Painting Like the Old Masters
Learn the techniques of the old masters. Using oils or acrylics, work through the processes of underpainting, grisaille, layering and glazing to achieve a beautiful and timeless three-dimensionality. Previous experience drawing the figure recommended. Come to first class with materials from list, ready to work.

The Still Life in Chalk Pastel
Using the still life as our subject, learn how to paint with beautiful chalk pastel. We will begin with a limited palette, and then introduce full color on succeeding projects. Pastel painting topics include materials, techniques, composition, use of color; demonstrations and individual advice each week. Returning students are welcome and can work on more advanced and individual projects. $15 supply fee due at first class.Tuesday evenings 9/12/17 – 11/14/17 6:30pm – 9:30pm
Quick gesture sketches and longer poses train your eye to observe and render the human form. Learn to use blocking, foreshortening, value shapes and other techniques to enhance your drawing skills.

Open Studio Figure Drawing & Painting
Studio available for working from the figure, short and long poses, supervised use; no instructor. Participants provide their own supplies. Different model each week). Enrollment limited. Note: Oils and acrylics ok in Monday class. No solvents in Friday class.Age: 14 and up

Portrait and Figure Drawing and Painting
This continuing portrait and figure class is for both drawing and painting students. One, two, or three session poses with nude and clothed models each quarter. New students are welcome and strongly encouraged to work in charcoal and pencil to build up drawing skills. Continuing students may progress to oil, acrylic, water media or chalk pastel. Drawing and painting topics demonstrated and individually addressed, including basic block-in, composition, measuring, proportion, foreshortening, anatomy, value, color, layering and brushwork.
