Hybrid: Old Masters Painting: Exploring Western Classical Techniques
Thursdays 9:00am – 12:00pm

03/28/24-05/23/24 (9 Sessions)

Learn the technique of the old masters. Using oils or acrylics, work through the processes of under-painting, grisaille, layering and glazing to achieve beautiful and timeless three-dimensionality. Previous experience with paint is not necessary. Come to first class with materials from list, ready to work! Materials list online at www.communityarts.org/materials. This course is in person and has online access for students who prefer to view the class from home. Zoom login information is sent via email with your registration.

NEW!  Open Studio Painting

Thursdays 1:00 pm – 05:00 pm

Paint or draw in an open studio environment with other artists. Not for beginners. Instruction is not provided, but advice/consultation available to all during first hour of each week. Participants provide own materials and are responsible for cleanup. No heavy solvents or mediums.

Figure Drawing

Fridays 9:00 AM – 12:00 AM

Quick gesture sketches and longer poses train your eye to observe and render the human form. Learn to use blocking, foreshortening, value shapes and other techniques to enhance your drawing skills. Beginners bring vine charcoal, drawing board and 18×24 rough newsprint to first class. Supplies and materials discussed in class. Experienced students bring own supplies. Undraped models used.

Open Studio Figure Drawing and Painting

Fridays 1:00 – 4:00 PM

03/29/24-05/24/24 (9 Sessions) 

Studio available for working from the figure, short and long poses, supervised use; no instruction. Participants provide their own supplies. Different model each week. Enrollment limited. Concerning oil paints: Light solvents only (low voc), only Turpenoid or Gamsol, and only Gamblin’s Solvent Free Galkyd.
