Still Life Painting like the Old Masters
Thursdays    9:00am – 12:30pm
Apr 4 – Jun 6 (10 Sessions)

Ages 18+ (16-17 with parent permission)

Learn the techniques of Titian and other old masters. Using oils (preferred) or acrylics, we will work through the processes of underpainting, grisaille, layering and glazing to achieve a beautiful and timeless three-dimensionality. Drawing experience recommended. Previous experience with paint is helpful but not necessary. Come to the first class with materials ready to work. Quick gesture sketches and longer poses train your eye to observe and render the human form. Learn to use blocking, foreshortening, value shapes and other techniques to enhance your drawing skills. Material list online at www.communityarts.org/materials

Portrait and Figure Drawing and Painting
Saturdays   9:30am – 1:00pm

This continuing portrait and figure class is for both drawing and painting students. One, two, or three session poses with nude and clothed models each quarter. New students are welcome and strongly encouraged to work in charcoal and pencil to build up drawing skills. Continuing students may progress to oil, acrylic, water media or chalk pastel. Drawing and painting topics demonstrated and individually addressed, including basic block-in, composition, measuring, proportion, foreshortening, anatomy, value, color, layering and brushwork. Painting the Still Life with Color and Light
Saturdays    1:30pm – 5:00pm

Afternoon painting class emphasizing the use of color and light in painting the still life in oil, chalk pastel or acrylic. Both alla prima (all at once) and indirect layering methods will be explored. Quick Painting Studies

Spend Sundays improving your painting skills! This new class is designed to help you become more confident each time you approach the canvas. Whether in oil, acrylic or chalk pastel, working within a limited time is an exhilarating experience.<backspace> Paintings will be 30 to 60 minutes, ranging from still life, landscape, and figure. Demonstrations will be numerous! Not for beginners, some knowledge/experience with materials, color, drawing skills.
